This is our first and we have no idea which car seat is the best and most practical. Our car is ISOFIX compatible if that is any help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The first thing you can do is decide if you want your carseat to fit onto the chassis of your pram. This will limit down the numbers on which you can go for. Most people find this useful as it saves having to take the whole pram system out in some cases, leaving you with just the chassis to put in your boot as the carseat will have your baby in it. You can have your baby in a carseat for a max of 2 hours at a time as they're not lying completely flat.

Some really good carseats I have come across are made by britax and maxi cosi. There are a number of prams which fit these carseats on to the chassis.

I really love the maxi cosi options. There are two available now, the second one came out 17th January and is called the 'Pebble':

These are available from mothercare and come in a number of colours. It really is one of the best you can buy. The safety features are amazing. It is £150 to buy and is isofix compatible. Your baby is nice and snug in this seat with a large removable sponge cushion inside. It has a safety 'shell' which protects your baby and has canopy for the summer months. It is easy to fit with the isofix base or with the belt and is compatible with several pushchairs including quinny, bugaboo and mothercare mychoice.

You can buy an isofix 'familyfix' base for this seat which is £140. It can hold this carseat and can also hold the next stage carseat until your baby is 4 or 5 years old. The base is easy to fit and comes with a light and sound guide so you know it is in correctly.

I do recommend you do come into a store where fully trained fitters are (such as mothercare). You can have a good look at lots of seats here, get lots of info and we can come out to your car and check these fit correctly, whilst giving you a demo.
